The Color of Islam is GreenIt Represents the Freshness of a Healthy Spiritual Lifestyle
Green is a color mentioned often in this day and time. The "Go Green" philosophy has become essential in its relevance for life and health.
The color green as the color of Islam was first used by the prophet himself. The color of the Islamic flag was green. To Muslims, green represents the freshness of Islam and how it is meant to bring the mind of the Muslim from ignorance into light. The era before Islam was known as jahiliyya (the days of ignorance). It is a time where the inhabitants of Mecca circumambulated the Kaaba (house of God) in the nude and worshiped stones, animals, and people. This created an atmosphere where worship of God became the lustful satisfaction of the people. There is a report from a Muslim during the early Islamic era about a man who converted to Islam after he had made a God out of dates. Later on when he became hungry, he ate the god. In Mecca, there were numerous statues of gods in and around the Kaaba. This brought in much revenue from the pilgrims who journeyed there to visit their god or goddess. Mecca was a place for the worship of a multiplicity of divinities simply to produce revenue. The Freshness of Islam to Maintain the Symbol of Spiritual LifeIt’s with this that God commanded the Muslims to be the only maintainers and visitors of the sacred house. The Muslims were also warned against falling into the same mode of others: “The Signs of Allah have they sold for a miserable price, and (many) have they hindered from His way: evil indeed are the deeds they have done.” (Quran 9:9) At the advent of Islam, represented by the color green, the freshness of religion returned for the worship of God. The freshness and true purpose of the Kaaba that was established by Abraham was resurrected. The Muslims were charged with its maintenance. The Freshness of Those Who Are Planet and Climate Conscious Should Maintain the EarthThis same type of reasoning is needed for the world at large. Those who desire a fresh green world are activity and metaphorically "going green." The "going green" movement is one that's intended to bring back the freshness of the world. World leaders like President Barack Obama and others are naturally at the forefront of this movement. It's widely believed that Muslims should also walk hand in hand with them, for humanity has but one planet on which to live. Green as a Universal SymbolThe color green is seen everywhere in the physical world as well as the spiritual. In the Far East it is representational of the life-force that emanates from the heart and the seat of humanities love and emotional well-being. Being loved and feeling loved by family and friends brings freshness to a person like nothing else. The Teacher of Moses was known as Al-Khidr (literally, "the green one"). He represents right action as the caretaker of this world. The color green is a universal symbol of love, peace, harmony, well-being, freshness, and honesty; elements that will improve the world as humanity strives to "go green."
