From Darkness to Light, the Quran Takes the Conscious Mind
A contingent of the Muslim population is in the practice of saying that all Muslims are ignorant of their religious belief and thus are in need of someone to teach them. They then state that in order for the Muslim to learn properly he must have a scholar to teach him. They state that the Muslim in modern times has no understanding of classical Arabic and cannot possibly understand all of Islam in a lifetime.
Prophet Muhammad Is Ordered to Read
These statements are in contradiction to what the Quran teaches about the Muslim. At the beginning of Prophet Muhammad’s prophet hood, he was ordered by the Angel Jibreel to read. “Iqraa! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created.” (Quran 96: 1)
Reading or conveying a message is the activity of a prophet. The prophet’s job is to convey clearly the message of God. This message must be understandable to the people who hear it. It must be understood so that the people who hear it will have a change in their heart and be led lead to God.
The Quran - A Protected Book
God states in the Quran that it is a protected book. The Quran is the same as it has been since Prophet Muhammad recited it to humanity over 1400 years ago. The Arabic is the same and has been preserved in written form and in the hearts of the believers.
It is a book that has guided millions of people on their spiritual journey. It has raised the consciousness and encouraged science. The Quran has been translated properly into other languages by professional translators so that it can be clearly understood by non-Arab speaking people.
Science Learned and Advanced by Early Muslims
Science was researched by the early Muslims so much so that they significantly contributed to the development of civilization. Some have called them the originators of modern thought including the scientific method. The math that was learned from Greek and eastern sources was used to develop al-jabr (algebra).
During the height of the Islamic empire philosophy was also developed which helped spark the mystic traditions within Islam. The philosopher Ibn Rushd (Averroes) and others advanced Islamic thought and aided in opening the Muslim mind to other sciences.
Modern Advances
These examples are just a few of the many advances that led Europe out of the dark ages to jump start the modern world and its technological advances. Ultimately, the world and its advances from a book the does not separate science and religion was the original factor that has aided significantly in the creation of the world as it is known today.
As such, it is the Quran that is studied by millions people around the world that has enlightened so many. It is a book easy to understand but has the tendency to open the mind to so many profound disciplines. As the Quran itself states, it is a book meant for all to study.
