Allah; According to Islam No Other Deity Exists

Nov 24, 2008 Khalil Green

The concept of God in Islam is defined as both omniscient and omnipotent; all conscious, all powerful.

God, called Allah in Islam, is described in the Quran as the One and only true creator of the heavens and the earth. God’s Oneness and uniqueness is stressed so strongly that it is the number one sin in Islam to associate any partners with him. Partners being any thing or anyone that is worship, prayed to, or bowed before in addition to God.

The Quran states that,

Say: He is Allah, the One and Only;

Allah, the Eternal, Absolute

He begets not, nor is He begotten

And there is none like unto Him. (Quran 112: 1-4)

His Oneness

In most traditions it is stated that God has some characteristics that resemble created things; whether that be stone statues, pictures, a combination of animal attributes, or a human male or female. According to The Muslim holy book, the Quran, this mischaracterization has led to God being perceived with limitations. Thus, God has been misrepresented as being depended on His creation, having attributes of a human, or being represented as a composite being; like a divine family or trinity.

In fact, such beliefs are reductions from His true majesty of being a singular non-divisible divine conscious reality.

He is Eternal, He is Absolute

The Quran states that His throne is over the heavens and the earth, and He is never weary of preserving them. He is the Sublime, the Tremendous. In his omnipotence, God’s power is symbolized as a Throne over the entire heavens and earth. His power is supreme and all life draws its substance and existence from Him. Of course as things are evolved, one creation may appear to draw its existence from another. The earth receives its existence from the sun, and the sun from the galaxy. However, everything returns to being in need of its Creator.

He is a Presence Everywhere

Being boundless there is no part of creation that God is unknowledgeable of. It is stated that he knows when every leaf falls from the tree. He is aware of every time and place of His creature’s death. If He wished he could reassemble the very finger tips of those who have passed away. He does not depend on any of his creatures to aid him or to bring him any knowledge. “To Allah belong the east and the West: Whithersoever ye turn, there is the presence (wajh) of Allah. For Allah is all-Pervading, all-Knowing.” (Quran 2:255)

He Needs No Rest

In chapter 2 verse 255 the Quran states that God does not sleep or slumber. Sleeping, and dreaming, are qualities of limited beings that are in need of physical and mental rejuvenation. The Quran states that God feels no fatigue in His existence nor has He ever felt tired at instigating the creative process. God, according to Islam has never rested and continues to create.

No Image of Him is Available

In the final verse of chapter 112 mentioned above, The Quran states that God does not have the appearance of one who is created. Living things on earth are made to exist in an oxygen rich environment. On earth there exist the need for weight and density to survive in an environment of gravity and other forces. Human and animal bodies are naturally adapted for their surroundings. They are given what is needed for their survival. God has no need of such an adaptation. He is free from resembling any of His creation both physically and spiritually.

God created all flesh, souls and spirit; none of these things resemble Him. They are part of the created things He has manifested.

In the end analysis, an accurate representation of God is that He exists as the True Reality from which all of creation has need, and through which all are caused.
